I always swore to myself that I wasn’t going to get addicted to Funkos. I even put off buying any forever (looking back, I’m sort of sad that I never got any of the Hobbit ones, especially Smaug).
If you like the computer-generated Funko I made of myself (above), then check out Funko.jp!
I've been packing all day to get ready to go to Atlanta tomorrow, a trip which we meant to do last weekend, but was canceled because of the snow. . . #qotd do you like aquariums? That's why I'm going to Atlanta. . . #bibliophile2017 is fav Disney cartoon and I'll have to say either Mulan or Robin Hood. They're too good to pick!! . . #anewbookyear17 is currently reading and I can't read just one at a time!! . . #janbookstagram is book + bookmark so you can see about how far I am in both of these. . . #bookstagram #booklr #booksofinstagram #booklove #bibliophile #bookphotography #bookphoto #books #instabook #bookporn #bookpic #booklover #reader #reading #readstagram #reads #thewrathandthedawn #offireandstars #reneeahdieh #mulan #robinhood
My first ever funko (and my “top rated” according to Pop Price Guide, which could be wrong since mine doesn’t have a box) is Robin Hood.
Why? Well, I love that movie and I had never seen a single item from it in stores before.
I’m not a completionist (but)
What I mean by that, is I’m not worried about having every single pop in a “set” aka all the Harry Potter Pops, or all the Doctor Strange ones (They need more variants of the Ancient One though!! I need a billion), etc, etc. However, because every story needs a however, I wouldn’t mind getting all the Lord of the Rings ones. In fact, my Lord of the Rings collection is my most “complete” to date and has a display all its own.
Well, technically I only have three Lord of the Rings pops in my collection (Frodo, Saruman, and the Balrog) and a few mystery minis (Galadriel, Merry, Sam, Boromir), but I have several on the way!
Limited and Exclusives
I don’t worry much about getting all the different versions, but there are a few that I have that were exclusive to a store or event.
Severus Snape as Boggart – Exclusive to fall conventions – This one I had to have BECAUSE IT’S HILARIOUS OKAY?
Kuzco (Llama) – Exclusive to Hot Topic – I love this movie
Spiderman (Wingsuit) – Exclusive to Marvel Collector Corps
Sora (Halloween Town) – Exclusive to Hot Topic
Dumbo (Diamond Collection) – Exclusive to Hot Topic – SHINY (I was making an order and I needed a minimum amount in order to get a discount, so I got him)
Sailor V (Glasses) – Exclusive to SDCC – It’s just cute (and now my BFF and I have matching ones!)
Doctor Strange (Astral Levitation) – Exclusive to Marvel Collector Corps
Ahsoka (Holographic) – Exclusive to SDCC – I stumbled across her at a Hot Topic a while back and I HAD to have her. I had been eyeing the plain Ahsoka for a while, but hadn’t ever seen her in person (buying stuff online always ends up put off), so I snapped her up while I could.
It’s nearly impossible to pick a favorite. Do I go with my first one (Robin Hood) for Nostalgia’s sake? Or one of my custom made pops because I put so much time into them? Or Eowyn, Hela, or the Ancient One for sheer badassery?
I really don’t have a favorite, I think it changes by the day.
To box or not to box
Honestly, there are a lot of people out there – mostly on r/FunkoPop – that would be horrified that my pops are NOT IN BOXES. Those are the people who get into it for the potential money making (I assume), but for me, it’s a labor of love. Some of my more recent purchases I’ve begun keeping the boxes for (stored in a box under my bed) in case they ever end up worth a lot or I decided to get rid of them, but for the most part I have no problem having them free and wandering my room.
